06 April 2025
Vienna, 6 April 2025 - UNIDO staff participated in the Vienna City Marathon (VCM), reinforcing the organization's commitment to sustainable supply chains and teamwork. A total of 64 participants across 16 relay teams took part in the Powerade relay, with a UNIDO theme of "Run the Talk', an initiative jointly organized by the Staff Council and the Division for Fair Production, Sustainability Standards and Trade (IET/PST). This initiative aimed to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable supply chains while also promoting health, fitness, and well-being among staff.
UNIDO’s presence was further strengthened by the engagement of colleagues who turned out in support, helping to amplify the message of fair and sustainable production in global supply chains. Head of the UNIDO Staff Council, Steven Eales, recognized the spirit of participation: "It's great seeing the community coming together like this. It reflects the spirit of good teamwork and collaboration we are used to in the office and highlights the passion we all have for our work. It's important to dedicate some energy to your happiness and wellbeing and we achieved that today in a big way. Very proud of the team!"
Virpi Stucki, Chief of UNIDO’s Division for Fair Production, Sustainability Standards and Trade, highlighted the event’s outreach potential: "With thousands attending the Vienna City Marathon, this is a great opportunity to showcase UNIDO’s work and raise awareness among consumers and the public about the importance of sustainable practices in supply chains."
Relay distances of 6.7 km, 8.6 km, 11.4 km, and 15.5 km allowed participants of all levels to take part, with team kits proudly featuring UNIDO’s colors and commitment to sustainability. Beyond the run, the event provided a valuable space for staff to connect, support one another, and engage in informal discussions on sustainability, further strengthening UNIDO’s mission—one stride at a time.
