MONTREAL - Forty-one Member States of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will benefit from the US$23m in funding secured from the Multilateral Fund for the implementation of the Montreal Protocol (MLF)  93rd Executive Committee meeting.

The Committee approved a record number of project proposals submitted by UNIDO on behalf of its Member States. These include 12 new Kigali Implementation Plans (KIPs), eight innovative projects on energy efficiency (corresponding to 75% of the total projects on energy efficiency presented at this meeting), and new stages of Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC) Phase Out Management Plans.

UNIDO has already assisted Niger and Cameroon to become the first countries to get their KIPs approved.

Present at the ExCom meetings, Ciyong Zou, UNIDO's Deputy to the Director General and Managing Director, affirmed, “Once again, UNIDO demonstrated its innovative approach in preparing project proposals with its counterparts and member states to assist them in taking suitable climate action and protect the ozone layer. UNIDO was also assessed as the best performing agency from among the four implementing agencies of the Montreal Protocol, based on the reported results for 2022.”
