In Ukraine, a country deeply affected by conflict, the journey towards healing and stability requires innovative solutions and collaborative efforts. This initiative harnesses the transformative use of 3D-printed technology for prosthetics, not only to provide crucial physical support to amputees but also to lay the foundation for a more inclusive job market. By integrating job creation and skill enhancement programs targeting individuals with disabilities, this project is transforming adversity into opportunity, paving the way for a resilient and self-sufficient future.
Overview
Approach
The solution embodies the synergy between cutting-edge technology and social inclusion, striving to create scalable solutions with far-reaching impacts. By prioritizing local empowerment, we aim to inspire broad engagement and collaboration through:
We emphasize developing local expertise in Ukraine. By training prosthetists in advanced 3D printing techniques, we are creating a network of skilled professionals capable of sustaining high-quality prosthetics production. This initiative not only responds to immediate needs but also builds a foundation for long-term transformation.
Recognizing the power of inclusive growth, we focus on cultivating employment and entrepreneurial skills among persons with disability. The comprehensive training programs offered prepare individuals for diverse roles in today’s dynamic job market, encouraging their integration into society.
Impact
Our inclusive economic strategies are designed to foster sustainable growth and empowerment, accelerating development in Ukraine while setting a standard for replicable models worldwide. This initiative is committed to achieving measurable, transformative change through several key accomplishments:

UNIDO Priorities:
Thematic Area(s):
The war against Ukraine has led to an increase in the number of people suffering amputations, and this number continues growing. Our healthcare system is struggling with a shortage of specialists in prosthetics – a problem we are particularly aware of here at the Halychyna Center in Lviv, where we are at the forefront of comprehensive rehabilitation and prosthetic services. The use of 3D technology for scanning limbs and creating prosthetics is a game-changer. Thanks to UNIDO, we now have additional technology, equipment and training to provide our patients with initial or temporary prosthetics. We hope to share this experience and be an example for others to improve on solutions for the growing demand.
Technology Used
We use 3D printing to transform prosthetics, making them highly customizable and efficient. This encourages collaboration with innovators and industry leaders.
Catalytic Outlook
Our vision extends past the borders of Ukraine with ambitions to replicate this model in other regions facing similar challenges. By addressing the multifaceted aspects of sustainable development through technological and social interventions, this initiative aims to inspire a global movement towards holistic, inclusive industrial advancement.
Unique Solution Characteristics
This solution is distinguished by its dual focus on cutting-edge technology and comprehensive social inclusion, impacting both present and future landscapes. Making prosthetics accessible and creating economic pathways ensures lasting change, forging a path where innovation meets inclusion.
